The Beyond Burger – Vegan Hits Singapore In a Very Tasty Way
We recently had the pleasure of eating a Beyond Burger at Mezza9, located within the Grand Hyatt. We were absolutely blown away by how tasty this burger was. Purely plant based and with no soy or gluten – the Beyond Burger uses beetroot and pea protein to achieve the flavour of an incredibly satisfying traditional beef burger.
A plus side to the experience is that each patty contains zero cholesterol, no hormones and no antibiotics so you know that you are eating clean plant protein, with little harm done to the environment to top it off.
We had the Classic Cheese Burger, and as I can’t eat gluten, the staff kindly put my Beyond Burger on gluten free bread. The burger has the works, vegan cheddar, vegan mayo, picked gherkins, lettuce and onions! Mezza9 are offering the Beyond Burger as part of a set which lets you choose from french fries, crispy organic cauliflower, steamed broccoli or ancient grains with herbs from the hotel’s own roof top garden. Along with it you may have a kombucha or a refreshing craft beer as your drink. No set is complete without dessert so to top it all off – a dark chocolate vegan brownie awaits you. Priced at $35++ we were delighted with the whole set.
I have dined at the Grand Hyatt for years now as the quality of the food they use is second to none. The Grand Hyatt has been continuously and consistently moving towards using only sustainably sourced produce which is something we admire and translates into the freshness of the food you eat at Mezza9.
With the introduction of the Beyond Burger, the Grand Hyatt will roll out other plant based option in 2018, including an Italian lunch buffet at Pete’s Place.
Plant based dining at the Grand Hyatt is spear headed by Food and Beverage Director Jerome Paigner, who became vegan a few years ago. Deciding to eat cleaner and be healthier after finding out his father wasn’t in the best of the health, he has taken the bull by the horns (so to speak) and is making plant based dining options accessible to everyone. Giving people the ability to choose to eat ‘green’ is notable especially given just a few years ago, Singapore couldn’t confidently cater to diners needs compared to more mature dining cities such as London and New York.
Worth noting is that the staff at Mezza9 are highly trained and aware of food allergies as well as lifestyle choices to ensure that you have a memorable meal. I have always found that they go above and beyond hospitality and are empowered and confident in their roles to make swift decisions that ensure I have always dined comfortably.
Plant based dining has never been tastier and is an experience we will be slotting into our own dining rotation. Don’t we all want to be healthier in the long run?
